Cozy Mystery Series: First book must be competed. The rest of the series should include 6-12 books total and be completed or planned.

Thrillers for any age: Especially with an espionage element and/or a female protagonist. Series are preferred!

Young adult and middle grade fantasy, mystery, fairytale retelling, and adventure series.

Submissions:

We are accepting unsolicited manuscripts. Please read this page in its entirety, and then contact one of our acquisition editors directly.

We are actively looking for clean romances, cozy mysteries, young adult light fantasy and unusual fairy tale retellings, and clean thrillers with female protagonists and espionage elements.

HOW TO SUBMIT:
We accept electronic submissions in Word.docx format, double spaced, using a 12-point font. Number your pages. Please submit the first 25 pages and a synopsis of no more than 1,000 words of the entire work, including the ending. We also request a cover letter including the genre, your specific intended audience, five recently-published comp titles, and whether the manuscript is part of an intended series.

See our Tips for Successful Submissions at the bottom of this page.

Responses to submissions should be expected in 2-3 months.

NEW OPTION:

Want to get to the front of the queue? We now accept audio submissions! These do not need to be (and should not be) professional recordings. Just pull out your phone, record yourself reading your first 25 pages, and submit the audio recording! We will give your submission top priority. If we are interested, we will email and request the entire manuscript in a Word file.

TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL SUBMISSIONS:

  • Polish your craft. Attend writer’s conferences, take writing classes, and read voraciously in the genre you write. Writing a great book takes time, practice, and patience. Write. Write. Write.
  • Have an editor or friend read over your submission before you send it.
  • Use the “Editor” function in Word (or something comparable) to check for spelling and grammar mistakes.
  • If you have published previously in any format, tell us about it in your cover letter.
  • Your genre should be a clean romance, cozy mystery, young adult light fantasy, a fairytale retelling, or a thriller. If it is not one of these, we are not publishing your genre at this time.
  • Know your audience. Who exactly is going to pick up your book? Why will they pick it up? What will draw them to your book, as opposed to the hundreds of others that are available? After they read your book, will they grab their phone to tell their friends about it? Which friends will they text first, and why? Feel free to tell us all this in your cover letter.
  • Do not tell us your book is for everyone. No book is for everyone. The more specific your audience, the better. For example: my audience includes women over age 40 who enjoy knitting, have a cat, and love reading mystery books in bed at night.
  • Comp titles are books your intended readers are likely to have read and loved. They should be in the same genre, published within the last 5 years, and should demonstrate that you understand your genre and your readers’ taste in books. Your word count should roughly match the word count of your comp titles. (You can usually find word counts of specific books through Google.)
